White Bay Power Station is proud to be the filming home of Portrait Artist of the Year, the inspiring ABC series that celebrates the art of portraiture and the extraordinary creative talent shaping Australia’s contemporary art scene.

Based on the hit UK show, the Australian series brings together artists from across the country as they paint some of the nation’s most recognisable personalities, including beloved chef Maggie Beer AO, iconic artist Ken Done AM, and Yellow Wiggle Tsehay Hawkins. Each sitter brings along a treasured personal item, inspiring portraits that reveal not just their likeness, but their stories, energy and spirit.
Set against the dramatic industrial architecture of White Bay Power Station, the series transforms this historic landmark into a living canvas; where creativity, culture and connection come to life.
As Sydney’s newest arts and cultural space, hosting Portrait Artist of the Year reflects our commitment to supporting artists, celebrating diverse perspectives and reimagining White Bay as a vibrant hub for artistic expression.
